Our Story
So, You’re Wondering How it All Started
Interestingly enough, we didn’t set out to create a master list of genres that everyone could access on the web. Instead, five years ago, we hired a Roku developer to create our first channel with the hopes of monetizing it. But, unfortunately, it didn’t turn out well.
So, instead of giving up, we decided to take matters into our own hands with a different approach. Rather than try to monetize through one Roku channel, we decided to develop several different Roku channels on our own and offer promotion services.
We started out with book trailer promotion. Then we added promotional services for other types of entertainment, like movie trailers, music, and podcasts. Our promotion service grew, and our side hustle became a success story.
Figuring Out Genres
We promoted any genres of books, music, and podcasts and verified them by looking at websites like Amazon, Google, Target, and Barnes & Noble.
As our general promotion service grew, we had clients asking us if we could offer promotion services for specific genres.
So, we put together a list of genres for our clients. However, it didn’t take long for that list to become disorganized.
Some genres use type and style to define their genre, while others were treated as a genre when they really were not. On top of that, some genres were confusing and blended together. For example, Caribbean music was commonly confused with Reggae music, which are two very different things.
Cleaning Up the List!
We knew we needed to fix our genre list and that the best way to do that was by getting help from the people who really knew their genres.
So, we decided to create an official master list of genres for blogs, books, games, magazines, movies, music, podcasts, radio, and TV shows. Then, we decided to publish it on the web so that anyone who had questions about genres could easily look them up and find them.
We decided to call it … Genres List.
Very creative, we know.
The thing is, we want people to be able to quickly find the genres list when they need to, not search for some cutesy name that doesn’t tell people exactly what we do.
And it worked! Genres List became the official one-stop site for all things genres.
Of course, art is continuously evolving. So, too, does our genres list. We appreciate all your support in helping us keep Genres List continually updated to make it the authorized list of genres on the web.
We truly appreciate with your help with the Genres List in each type and make our Genres List become more official and authorized list.
